Learning app with no account: privacy, microphone and no ads

Many parents and teachers rightly ask: what happens to my child’s data? The short answer: this app doesn’t collect any. It runs entirely in the browser, needs no account and shows no ads. Here is what that means in detail.

No account, no ads, no tracking

  • There is no sign-up – no email address, name or age is ever requested.
  • There are no ads and no in-app purchases.
  • There is no tracking and no analytics service watching how the app is used.

Everything stays on the device

Stars, practice days, settings and your own songs are kept in the browser’s local storage on that very device. None of it is sent to a server. One consequence: clearing the browser data also clears the progress. So nothing gets lost, “My stars” offers a backup code. You can note it down and restore your progress on another device.

The microphone listens, it doesn’t record

The tuner, “Check me!”, the chord game and the chord detective use the microphone to recognise notes and chords. The analysis happens only on the device, in real time. Nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded. The browser asks for permission first, and you can withdraw it at any time.

Sharing songs without a server

Your own songs can be shared via link or QR code. The whole song is compressed into the link, after the “#” sign. Browsers never send that part of an address to the server, so the song travels straight from device to device.

Open and free

The app is open source: all of its code is public, so anyone can check that it does what is described here. It is free and started out as a private practice aid for a child in a school ukulele class. How it fits into everyday practice is covered in Practising with kids.
